Yes, each mentor must go through a two-hour training session that discusses topics covered in each session, logistics of the program and expectations of both student and mentor. The mentor manual with the curriculum is given at the time of training. In addition, throughout the school year, I have workshops that you may attend that will discuss different topics that will be of benefit.

The sessions are held during the school day at the school you select. Each time varies depending on school.

4. Is this a 2-year commitment & intended to be with the same student(s)?

We are asking for an 18-month commitment, however, it is our hope that the mentor will enjoy the program and make a longer commitment. It is our hope that the mentor will have such a great experience that they will follow the student through graduation.  The Decatur students are freshman and we are hoping that the mentors enjoy the program for the two years and want to continue and see the freshman through to their senior year.  In the senior year the mentors can choose to be a one-on-one mentor.  At Ben Davis you will start with juniors and it would be your choice if you moved with the students from their junior to their senior year where you would become a one-on-one mentor or remain a junior mentor and start with a new class of juniors.
